Finland’s Wine Market: A Nordic Success Story for Distinctive Wines

Three wines. Two countries. One new Nordic market.

For MOVIN Agency, one of the most exciting recent developments has been the successful entry of three wines from our portfolio into the Finnish HoReCa market.

Three wines from Romania and Hungary have recently been listed by Tampereen Viinitukku, an established Finnish private importer supplying restaurants and wine consumers across Finland with great success and expertise.

The selection includes:

Crama Oprisor Caloian Feteasca Neagră
A Romanian red made from one of the country’s most distinctive indigenous grape varieties.

Serpens Wine Serpens Tokaj Dry
A contemporary dry expression of Tokaj, one of Hungary’s most recognised wine regions.

Serpens Wine Serpens Tokaj Sweet
A sweet Tokaj offering a different expression of the region and adding further diversity to the selection.

For MOVIN, this is more than three new listings. It is a great example of what we aim to achieve for the producers we represent: connecting distinctive Central and Eastern European wines with the right international partners and markets.

A new Nordic opportunity for Hungarian and Romanian wines

The Finnish market is particularly interesting for producers looking to expand their international presence.

Retail sales of wines above 8% ABV are largely handled through Alko, Finland’s state-owned alcohol retail monopoly, while the HoReCa channel offers a separate route through licensed restaurants and private importers.

This creates opportunities for wines that are well matched to the needs of the on-premise market and supported by an importer with the right local network.

This is exactly where the partnership with Tampereen Viinitukku becomes relevant.

The company specialises in supplying restaurants and wine consumers and has a portfolio that combines wines from major producing countries with smaller and more distinctive origins. Wines are supplied directly to licensed on-premise customers from its own warehouse.

For MOVIN, finding this kind of partner is a key part of successful international market development.

Why distinctive wines can find their place

Romania and Hungary have an important advantage when it comes to international wine expansion: they offer wines with a strong sense of origin.

Indigenous varieties such as Feteasca Neagră and the diverse styles of Tokaj give producers stories and wine styles that are not easily replicated elsewhere.

At the same time, these wines can offer attractive price-quality propositions, making them relevant for restaurants and consumers looking for something beyond the most established international origins.

The three new Finnish listings are a great example of this potential.

Rather than simply entering another market with familiar international varieties, they bring regional identity, indigenous grapes and distinctive wine styles to the Finnish HoReCa scene.

The right importer makes the difference

Successful market entry is not simply about finding an importer.

It is about finding the right importer for the right wine.

The importer needs to understand the product, its story and its potential customer, while the producer needs to understand the market, its channels and the positioning required to make the wine relevant.

At MOVIN Agency, this connection is at the heart of what we do.

We work with international producers and importers to identify opportunities where there is a genuine fit - whether that means an established category, an emerging wine region, a strong price-quality proposition or a wine with a story that can stand out in the market.

Our latest Finnish listings are a great example of this approach in action.

Three wines. Two countries. One new Nordic market.

And for MOVIN, one more step towards bringing the distinctive wines of Central and Eastern Europe to wine lovers around the world.
