Weingut Gebrüder Nittnaus is a family-owned winery based in Gols, in the heart of Burgenland, Austria, near Lake Neusiedl. The Nittnaus family has been involved in winegrowing for more than 300 years, building a strong connection to the vineyards and the unique landscape of the region. Today, the winery is run by brothers Andreas and Hans Michael Nittnaus, with the support and experience of their parents, Hans and Christine.
The brothers combine tradition with a fresh and forward-looking approach. While Hans Michael is responsible for the cellar and plays a key role in defining the style and expression of the wines, Andreas is involved in vineyard management as well as sales and the winery’s presence at tastings and events. Their different skills and interests complement each other and allow them to develop the family winery together.
Sustainability is at the heart of the winery’s philosophy. The Nittnaus family sees their vineyards as a unique natural heritage that should be preserved for future generations. Their viticulture follows sustainable and ecological principles, with careful pruning, foliage management, moderate yields and the use of cover crops to support healthy soils and beneficial insects.
The winery benefits from the distinctive conditions around Lake Neusiedl. The combination of the warm Pannonian climate, the moderating influence of the lake and the diversity of soils provides excellent conditions for producing expressive and balanced wines. The region is particularly well known for its red wines, with Zweigelt and Blaufränkisch playing an important role in the Nittnaus portfolio, while the winery also produces a broad range of white and sweet wines.
Alongside traditional regional styles, the winery also embraces experimentation and innovation. A good example is their Dry Aged Red, an innovative Appassimento-style wine made from Blaufränkisch grapes. First produced in 2018, the grapes are dried for several weeks before fermentation and extended maturation in barriques, creating a concentrated and distinctive expression of the Gols vineyards.
Today, Gebrüder Nittnaus stands for a combination of family heritage, sustainable viticulture, regional identity and continuous development. Their aim is to create wines that express the fruitiness and character of Burgenland while remaining closely connected to their vineyards and the natural environment.
