One of Hungarian wine’s extraordinary features is its diversity. Even in international terms, Hungarian wine is extremely rich in grape varieties, wine regions and winemaking practices. You can choose from a wide range of wines styles that are constantly reinventing themselves, from sparkling wines to naturally sweet wines, from volcanic white wines to full-bodied red wines. The 22 wine regions give an extraordinary possibility to discover remarkable and unique wineregions just a short drive from each other. The diverse soil composition (Volcanic, sedimentary, alluvial type soils in a rich diversity from granit and permian sandstone to lime loess and gravelly river plains) give unique and recognisable mineral backbone to Hungarian wines. In Hungary, 223 varieties of wine grapes are cultivated on 65,000 hectares. White grapes account for 70% of this area, black grapes for 30%. The vineyards are planted with typical Hungarian varieties native to the Carpathian Basin as well as traditional and international varieties.
