Sándor Zsurki is a real white wine specialist and noble sweet wine expert. He was the winemaker of the very prestigious Degenfeld winery in Tokaj, Tarcal. He is involved in many projects such as the successful FURMINT USA project, where he created the "US market taste" special Furmint SLOPES and he is engaged as a consulting winemaker with wineries mostly in the solely white wine region Tokaj and also in the white wine focused Badacsony (North Balaton Region). He is the head winemaker at PÁTZAY winery right now, which runs Hungary’s second most important wine merchant (Veritas) and his wines are the best selling products there. His philosophy is to create high quality, modern, ambitious wines of charming character. Although Sándor Zsurki’s current achievements are remarkable, it is worth noting that his international reputation is also tied to his tenure at Pajzos Tokaj (1999–2007). During this period, he crafted several outstanding wines that received significant recognition. Sándor Zsurki was named "Winemaker of the Year" in Tokaj-Hegyalja in 2005. His wines have won top international awards, including gold medals at the Challenge International du Vin and Wine Style Asia. Notably, the Chateau Pajzos Tokaji Esszencia 1999 earned a perfect 100 points from Wine Advocate and 98 points from Wine Spectator.
The SERPENS itself is Sándor's private estate brand in Sárospatak, Tokaj where he cultivates a few hectare of his family land in such quality vinyards like Somos and Királyhegy. He focuses on Tokaj's three main varieties Furmint, Hárslevelű and Sárgamuskotály. His knowlede and nationwide acknowledged style is being manifested in Serpens wines at the highest possible quality.
