This time we travel to Szentantalfa, in the heart of the Balaton Highlands, where Dobosi Winery is led by owner and company director Győző Dobosi. Known for its commitment to organic viticulture, strong connection to terroir, and dedication to local grape varieties, the winery has earned growing recognition on the international stage.
We spoke with Győző Dobosi about philosophy, soils, wines, and the journey of the Dobosi estate.

MOVIN Agency: Dobosi Winery is deeply connected to the landscape of the Balaton Highlands. How would you describe the identity of this region?
Győző Dobosi: The Balaton Highlands, especially the Nivegy Valley around Szentantalfa, have a very special character. Our vineyards grow on diverse soils including limestone, marl, and clay, which gives our wines complexity and minerality.
The presence of Lake Balaton also influences the microclimate. The lake reflects sunlight and moderates temperatures, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly and maintain freshness. This balance helps us produce wines that are elegant, structured, and expressive of their origin.

MOVIN Agency: Your winery follows organic principles. What does organic winemaking mean for you?
Győző Dobosi: For us, organic farming is a natural continuation of traditional vineyard culture. We believe that great wines start with healthy soils and a balanced ecosystem.
Our bio-organic cultivation combines centuries-old traditions with modern innovation, all without the use of synthetic chemicals. This approach allows the vineyards to remain alive and expressive.
We try to guide the vines rather than control them. The goal is always to let nature speak through the wine.
Győző Dobosi: We believe that wine follows two journeys.
The first journey begins with the grape in the vineyard and continues until the wine reaches the depths of the bottle. This is the journey of cultivation, harvest, and careful winemaking.
The second journey begins when the bottle is opened. This is when wine truly comes alive - in conversations, shared meals, and moments between people.
Our family tries to follow the wisdom of nature and a sense of balance on both of these journeys.
MOVIN Agency: Your wines have achieved remarkable international recognition in recent years. Could you highlight some of the recent awards?
Győző Dobosi: We are grateful that our wines are receiving attention internationally.
At the Berliner Wine Trophy 2026 Winter Edition,
In 2025, at the Decanter World Wine Awards,
At the Catad’Or World Wine Awards in Chile, both
We were also very proud that at Grow du Monde, the international Olaszrizling competition, our Bio Baricska Olaszrizling 2023 received Platinum.
These recognitions are important because they show that Hungarian varieties and terroirs can stand confidently on the international stage.

MOVIN Agency: Your winery also received recognition as the Best Producer of Organic Wine at the Berliner Wine Trophy. What did that moment mean for you?
Győző Dobosi: That was a very emotional moment for us. It was a confirmation that our long-term commitment to organic viticulture is worthwhile.
This recognition is not only about one wine - it acknowledges the entire philosophy of our winery: respect for nature, patience, and dedication to quality.

MOVIN Agency: Olaszrizling plays a major role in your portfolio. What makes this variety so exciting to work with?
Győző Dobosi: Olaszrizling is a grape that can truly translate terroir into the glass.
Different vineyards produce completely different expressions. A wine from Baricska vineyard may show strong minerality and structure, while wines from the Nivegy Valley can appear more elegant and aromatic.
For us, working with Olaszrizling is an opportunity to demonstrate the richness of our landscape.

MOVIN Agency: Your winery is also part of the NivegyBor initiative. What does this collaboration represent?
Through this initiative, we want to strengthen the reputation of the region and show that this small valley can produce exceptional wines with a clear sense of place.

MOVIN Agency: How do you see the future of Hungarian wines on the global stage?
Győző Dobosi: Hungary has extraordinary potential. Our country has unique grape varieties, diverse terroirs, and a long winemaking tradition.
The key is to remain authentic. Instead of copying international styles, we should focus on what makes us unique - varieties like Olaszrizling, Juhfark, Kéknyelű, and the special character of our wine regions.
If we stay true to this identity, Hungarian wines will continue gaining recognition worldwide.
MOVIN Agency: Finally, what do you hope wine lovers experience when they visit Dobosi Winery?
Győző Dobosi: Our wine estate offers more than just wines. We want visitors to experience the gastronomy, the landscape, and the community spirit of the Balaton Highlands.
Wine should reach not only the senses but also the heart. If someone leaves our winery feeling connected to the place, the people, and the story behind the wine, then we have achieved our goal.
Thank you, Győző, for sharing your story and philosophy with us. We look forward to following the continued journey of Dobosi Winery and the wines of the Balaton Highlands.
