Not specifically aromatic with a medium body and acidity, this Mid-European grape variety is considered to belong to the Carpathian basin. You can meet it with different names in the neighbouring countries: Grasevina in Croatia is the main variety with about 8500 hectars, Welschriesling in Austria, Italian Riesling in Romania. Its wine is usually characterized by notes of citruses, fruits, almond and green apple. In the Badacsony wine region Olaszrizling is a must, one of the area’s main varieties. What we are striving for -while emphasizing the capabilities of Ábrahámhegy- is to bring the saltiness of our volcanic soil to the fore as well as the wealth of flavours coming from our almost 40-year-old vineyard. Special attention is needed on our southern slope to preserve the acidity and to reach a full ripening. This may only be reached with a strict yield limitation. As a result, our wines may be stored for long and they become richer and more full-bodied with age. We bought these 0,6 hectares in 2016 and we are doing all the green work from 2017 on. We are continuously renewing and replacing what is necessary. At the beginning we more than halved the original vineload. In this way we believe that the superior qualities of the soil became more prevalent. Its effect on the wine quality is beyond doubt.
